Tuesday Teaser of sorts

Hello my lovelies!  What’s going on in your neck of the woods?

We have some warmer weather here in the midwest, The expected precipitation will be coming down in the form of rain and not snow – so relieved.

Here’s the brunt of what I wanted to say today.

A slight correction,  it’s Wizard Con not Comicon. I feel that is secondary to Jason Momoa!!!!!

Getting Organized

Sometime in January,  I usually share a post on how well I did at hitting my goals in the previous year and my goals for this year. I think maybe I’ll do that Sunday if y’all tune in then. I’ve been thinking a lot about what to blog and since I haven’t done so well at getting them published, I’ve got a backlog of words that are piling up. Multiple ideas, categories, things I’m dealing with, things I find interesting and things I think others would be interested in. I’m hoping that my readers can help me get organized on this blog!

Row Of Falling Files For Getting Office Organized

So, in that vein, here are a few categories that I’m thinking about making regular posts this year.  If you read this post, please leave a comment and let me know which categories you want to hear about, and which you do NOT.

  • books – mine and other authors, cover reveals, releases, reviews.
  • teasers and tasty tidbits – teasers of my current WIP, and a new recipe, hopefully with pictures of the finished product. (Keto, diabetic, sugar-free, regular)
  • Monday mojo –  my Monday motivational posts,  they always seemed to be one of the categories that do well and that readers like.
  • On Writing – plot, characters, story, mary sues, flat stanleys, writing prompts, contests, submission calls.
  • Life – stuff we all go through,  dealing with difficult people, learning to say no, emotions, and all that stuff that gets in our head.
  • Random madness – you know the ones,  those crazy posts that seem way out in left field,  but once you read through you go “ah yes, now I get it.”  Or something just off the wall, because creative minds are never waffles, but spaghetti.
  • Crafts, DIY, hobbies – painting, BUJO, bullet journaling.
  • Excerpts of my work.
  • Deals – when books are on sale, when I am doing giveaways.
  • Sports, politics, finance, – I won’t say never,  but 99% sure you won’t ever find these here.
  • Humor – because if you can’t laugh once in a while, you seriously need to.

I plan to do a few more vlogs this year, getting a little more comfortable in front of the camera. I mean, hey if you aren’t put off by my mug on here,  then I’m willing to talk your ear off! By the way,  if you want to see some really embarrassing stuff, go check out my youtube channel and see my Splendies unboxing.  HAHA! I have to reload the latest one,  it cut off on me.

Anyway, that’s it for today, have had Doctor’s appointments, done my housework and got 1300 words down. I’m calling today a win! Oh, and I shared today’s fashion on Instagram!

Before I leave you,  I’ll drop the last few lines of my Current WIP, Fury: Book II of the Valkyrie’s Curse series, here:

Morning sunlight shimmered upon the waves. Elias Westergaard stood at the stern railing of his yacht, enjoying the rich bold flavor of his imported Colombian coffee.

He had done everything right. His timing had been impeccable, as always. Helena was to blame. She had somehow managed to thwart his plans. She would pay.

 For now though, he needed to lay low. There was no safer place for him than on the open sea. He preferred to stay within sight of the shore,  but the current situation demanded otherwise.

“More coffee sir?” Martin Tanner stood to his right, back a few paces behind him.

Elias held his cup out, allowing the boy to fill it. Martin was a nuisance to him, but he kept things running smoothly on the yacht.

“Will there be anything else, Dr. Westergaard?”

“No, that will be all.” He lifted his cup almost to his mouth, “Oh Martin,” pausing for a moment his arm in an odd angle as if posing for a magazine.

“Yes sir?”

“There is one more thing. Inform Walter I’d like the lobster bisque for lunch.”

“Yes sir.”

He lifted the cup the remaining distance, closing his eyes as he relished the hot liquid warming his throat while chasing away the chill of the air. He needed to brace himself for this dive.

Keep in mind this is only the first revision and hasn’t been touched since NANO camp last April.

I am proud to unveil my latest book cover for Break Line novella!

When opportunity knocked to relocate to paradise, he couldn’t pass it up. He had it all – paradise, family, and the career of his dreams. Nathan even had the best therapy in the world: the ocean. His life was perfect.

Tragedy strikes, taking more than his leg with it. His confidence is shattered leaving fear in its place. If it weren’t for his cousin and new best friend Kai, he might give in to the demons of his past and present.

Fate seems to be mocking the once cocky marine when a petite Hawaiian beauty becomes his physical therapist. She pushes all his buttons ten ways to Sunday! Nathan is torn between irritation with Kini Okana, and his desire for her.

Can Kai and Kini help him overcome the trauma that has turned his world upside down, or will Nathan let the tragedy rob him of his future dreams?

August – code for CRAZY

OH my! Wow it’s been a month, a  crazy, hectic, hair pulling month.
Apparently, I missed the memo that said August is code for CRAZY!!

I shared my newest book with y’all.  The ebook on Amazon is available,  but I’ve had a heck of a time with the print book. My cover that I was so proud of,  wouldn’t print right.  It became pixelated, blurry in spots, and there was a white line around the back cover.

Let’s try this again. OH, and to make things more interesting,  let’s have Amazon send out notices to authors that they are doing away with Createspace, and everyone has to switch over to the KDP print. *HEADDESK*

This is also the month that I have to take continuing ed classes in order to renew my mortgage professional’s license. UGH!

So, I thought I’d give you a teaser for book one,  and a snippet for book 2. Deal?

The Awakening: Book 1

FURY: Book 2

Morning sunlight shimmered upon the waves. Elias Westergaard stood at the stern of his yacht, enjoying the rich bold flavor of his imported Colombian coffee that he preferred over what was readily available in Europe.

He had done everything right. His timing had been impeccable, as always. That blasted girl Helena was to blame, she had done something that thwarted his plans. She would pay but for now, he needed to lay low. There was no safer place for him than on the open sea.

“More coffee sir?” Martin Tanner stood to his right back a few paces behind him.

Elias held his cup out, allowing the boy to fill it. Martin was a nuisance to him, but he kept things running smoothly on the yacht.

“Will there be anything else, Mr. Westergaard?”

Gearing Up

Hey guys! Whassup?

I’ve been gearing up for this year’s Penned Con. Sadly, I won’t have book 2  of the Valkyrie’s series done in time. Darn it!

I’ve been working a lot on the day job,  got my office decorated finally. I”ll bet you haven’t seen another mortgage loan officer’s office like mine!

Purple walls- what are you going to do with that? It wasn’t my choice of colors, but I worked with what I was given. this has become my place of solitude to write uninterrupted.

I’d like to say I had a completed project to share with everyone,  but I don’t.  I have been organizing my files,  going through duplicate files, making print copies of each story so that I had a reference point, and writing out my main storyline and plot points.

In Kiss of the Dragon, for instance,  I pantsed that one. It didn’t have a viable plot, other than romance, but they meet they fall in love,  they work their way towards the big deed isn’t exactly a plot, now is it?  In the meantime,  there are five different things going on in their world that involve them.  I had to sort it out to make sense inside my head before continuing. The first book, which I wrote during Nano many years back,  I wrote over 100K.  Sadly,  much of that will either go into other books of that series or it will be thrown in the virtual trash bin.  I have four or maybe even five books planned for that series.  It’s just a matter of whether the mage parts can be included into the other books or not. Which, is why I was working on writing out my plot points.

For those who have followed me for a long time, you know that I have multiple projects in the incomplete file. I’ve really been trying to focus on just one at a time like my friend Vicki Locey has advised. If I could get to where I can crank out the writing at even half the pace she does,  I might stand a chance to get all of my books completed!

In the meantime, I’ve been packing and decluttering my home. So far this month, I’ve removed over 300 items, whether it has gone in the trash, recycling, or to charity. It’s liberating, but man I got a lot more to do in the dungeon, errr basement.

So, aside from all of that,  I’ve been gearing up for Penned.  I wanted to share over the next few days some of the past interviews I’ve done with attending authors.

The first one,  Mr. Rick Miles, organizer of the event. (This one is from 2016 – my God, I was huge!!!)

Next, is AnnaLise Grant, author of the Lake, the only book I have read of hers yet.  I have others,  I just haven’t read them yet.

I surprised Nikki Jefford,  she  commented that she almost came downstairs early in her pjs,  but she was glad that she got clothes on when I surprised her.

She looks completely together to me! So last year,  I made an invitation to the Penned Con group and was overwhelmed with responses.  Sadly, I greatly overestimated my energy level and was unable to get to everyone that I had signed up to do an interview.  Please don’t hate me guys  – I blame cancer! Yes, I’m pulling the cancer card on that one, because I was drained after treatments.

But here are a few from Penned Con 2017.  First. Laura Hawk!!

IF you are into military romance, have I got the author for you!  Meet Shannon Nemecheck!

Well, that’s all you’re getting for today,  I have to get back to work on these darned edits, which will require more coffee.

Y’all have a great day and come back to find out who else I’ve interviewed tomorrow. Or the net tomorrow, we’ll see how it goes.

BLURB:

Helena Eskildson is obsessed with Vikings and Norse Mythology. Neither Helena nor her sister knows they are Freya’s daughters – Valkyries, the shield maidens to Odin.
When her obsession leads her to a remote site at Roskilde and it’s two monolithic rune stones, her destiny is awakened.
While the team wages a battle between a cursed site and a sociopathic killer, time is ticking closer to Ragnarok.
Will her friends be able to save her before the gjallerhorn sounds?

Do you want a little sneak preview? I’ve been sharing snippets on Sundays WEWRIWA of this soon to be released book!

EXCERPT 1:

He felt he had the favor of the Norns, the three goddesses associated with destiny, that were akin to the Greek gods of fate.

Having the favor of the gods meant success in his goals. He was destined to be Lif, the last man standing, the lone man that would repopulate the earth after Ragnarok. In essence, he would become the new Adam.

The rituals were necessary, an integral part of the process before using the key. Unfolding the linen handkerchief carefully, the ancient bronze key looked nothing like what most would think of as a key. A circular piece, about six inches in diameter spanned from his thumb to the tip of his middle finger. Runic writings along the outside edge written within the form of the great serpent Jormungand, the great dragon conquering the gripping animal grouping in a circular band about two inches wide, the design in the eternal triskell pattern. Inside of that, written in runes was the location of the gjallerhorn. At the center were nine swords pointing to an amber stone, nine strands over an open area, the stone center raised with a square notch in the back. It had to be positioned precisely at the solstice.

EXCERPT 2:

Helena dreamed of flying. In the past, it seemed that she miraculously flew, but in this dream she had wings. Great wings with silvery white feathers that shimmered in the sun’s rays. Her hair shone in brilliant golden hues. Her skin had a radiance from within, her cheeks rosy, her lips full. She felt an inner beauty and confidence that although unfamiliar fit her perfectly like a glove. She rose into the air, watching the warriors below.

Brave men poured from a hidden passage into the courtyard. Moving with quiet stealth, they moved to stations waiting for a signal from the leader.

Her eyes scanned the scene, watching. Which one was the leader? Then with a quick raise of his hand, the men advance with a great war cry. Waiting, observing the men working as a unit together to accomplish a greater goal. This would please Odin!

A young man poked his head from the tunnel, then ducked back inside. A few seconds later he darted across the courtyard to a smaller building. Drawing his sword he entered.

She dropped lower, so she could see inside, seeing a large wooden cabinet and another man fleeing. The young man approached the cabinet, searched it and found it empty, then pursued the other man.

The encounter was brief, easily taking the treasure from the thief. Confidence flooded over her. At last, a worthy warrior to claim.

 That’s right,  it’s ME!!!

For my longtime readers, The Awakening, Book 1 in Valkyrie’s Curse series is slated to release on June 20th – I had to push it back a week as I don’t yet have the cover from the cover artist.  The cover reveal was supposed to go up Wednesday, May 9th. Can’t reveal a cover you don’t have now can you? The preorder is up however – 99 cents until release date! The cover on there is not the final cover – it’s a placeholder.
So let’s jump in shall we?
This is from the prologue, continued from last week.
~~~~~
Aella saw a shadow move beyond the curtain. He took the sword from the hand of the second guard he had killed. Now armed with two swords he moved forward cautiously, muscles tensed at the ready. Aella moved behind the altar and found the secret compartment in the back opened. The key was gone!
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a movement. He had to get that key! Aella moved to follow the thief. Swiftly he thrust his sword forward spun around and struck again with both swords, removing the thief’s arm. As the arm fell to the ground, the key dropped free. For a split second, his eyes followed the key, enough time for the man to raise his broad axe, but Aella was faster and thrust again. One sword found its mark in the enemy’s chest, the other slashed across the man’s throat.
Greetings! It’s been a while since I’ve tried to share anything for this. I’ve been plugging away at two shorts and revisions on the next novel. Before I shared from The Blood Key which was one of the shorts I was working on.  The anthology was canceled unfortunately. I will release this one though after I get the first and second books from the Fae series out.
For my longtime readers, The Awakening, book 1 in Valkyrie’s Curse series is slated to release on June 12th.  The cover reveal and preorders will go up soon, I promise.
So let’s jump in shall we?
~~~~~
Olaf, Sven, and Aella glanced between themselves nodding. They had fought together in other battles, but this was the first in their homelands. They touched their swords to their chest and made the family sign, mouthing silently together “united by birth, bound by blood”.
An insurgent had taken their lands, their women, and killed their king. Now it was time to reclaim what was rightfully theirs.
The ship slowed as the V-shaped hull found the soft sand. Jorvic gave the forward motion. Two men steadied the ship as the others slipped into the surf. IT was only knee-deep, the men sloshed forward as quietly as possible. By the stealth of moonlight, they slipped through the secret door on the outer wall.
