The Song of Making

Welcome to Flash Fest December!

I have some author friends who have joined me in this challenge, and are contributing to the prize baskets!

Today is WEWRIWA!

I’ve been sharing from my current WIP, The Blood Key.

Weekend Writing Warriors.

HOW IT WORKS

It’s simple and fun. Sign up on the linky list with your name, blog url, and email address on Mondays, 8:00 AM EST. Each week, the list remains open until Saturday, 11:59 PM. Then on Sunday, post 8 to 10 sentences from a current writing project, published or unpublished. Visit other participants and offer opinions, critiques, support. Writers hanging out with writers, a good time with a great group of people.

8 sentences –  I can manage that, can’t I?  That sounded like a challenge and I was off!
Yes, it’s late in the year but what the heck! Maybe this will turn into a regular thing.  I ‘ve been thinking I should share more snippets anyway. I’ve had some issues with my links in the past few weeks, let’s hope it’s all straightened out now. Keep in mind, this is truly a first draft. So here goes:

Raelyn began to sing quietly the song of making before she realized what she was doing. When she came to the chorus, realization dawned and her voice quietly tapered off. She would have to learn new lullabies, new songs of comfort and a whole new way of life. She hoped and prayed that the part she had sung had not alerted one of the high priests to their whereabouts.

She had adapted quickly to life in Faery. Raeylan hoped that she would adapt as easily to life on earth once again.

The emotions rose up inside of her nearly choking her, but she squelched them down. She couldn’t fall apart now, she had to protect Iliana. It would be best if she and her child took on new names so that no one would find them. She offered a prayer to the gods of the Faery realm, offered a prayer to her own God from her childhood, and asked protection for her innocent child.

Whatever was to come, she would face it bravely for Iliana’s sake.

OK, well that was closer to 10,  but I felt I should complete the thought of that scene.

Leave a message and let me know what you think! You can check out other WEWRIWA authors HERE!

Dune Jasper stood in Shaya’s doorway filling the space entirely. Even without his armor, he was massive.

Instant heat surged through her body.

Wavy dark locks hung down over his shoulders, reminding her of the Highlanders she’d bedded in the sixteenth century.

His eyes were dark with the shadows of horrific deeds he’d witnessed. His facial features were perfection. She wouldn’t dare speak it aloud, but he was more handsome than her liege, Brogann. Broad shoulders, bulging biceps, forearms, and his hands were more than double the size of her own.

The title of this one is called The Blood Key. It is going to be a novella from my Fae series that I’ve been working on for some time now.  This one is hopefully going into a paranormal fantasy anthology – fingers crossed that I make the cut!

Be sure to check out the other author’s snippets as well HERE

The Blood Key – NANO WIP

November is NANOWRIMO, (National novel writing month) I thought it only fair to share some snippets from that. After all, this is my current WIP.

 This was supposed to post last Sunday on November 26th, but I was locked out of my WordPress account. It took me until Thursday to get it fixed. Technology can be a wonderful thing and it can be a horrible thing. This week my vote goes for horrible.

“How soon will you take the vows?” Dune walked with his friend down the cobblestone walkway towards the divide where the barracks were on the left path and the officer’s quarters were on the right. Grimm’s new cottage was three doors past his own. He envied Grimm in finding a mate. His last venture into a match was dreadful. So much so, he’d resigned himself to temple prostitutes and Bang, which was a club where people could go to explore whatever dalliance they desired.

“I plan to make arrangements in the temple just as soon as she accepts me.”

“I see no reason why she wouldn’t.  I saw the way she was looking at you at court after the trial.”  Dune patted him on the shoulder then turned towards his own cottage.  “Nearly a done deal already.”

~~~~~~~~~
He clasped Raelynn’s hand, memorizing the soft delicate features of his own flesh and blood before he pulled up the ottoman in front of her. He clasped her hand again. “I” the words caught in his throat as the sense of urgency heightened in his senses. “The trial went poorly. Brogann has set things in motion that may mean war for our realm. Because of his crimes, you and the child are in danger. I have to get you away from here right now. Are you able to travel?”
